Recovery For Tiger Woods At Deutsche Bank Golf Tournament 2010

Further optimism is seen for Tiger Woods game, after regaining some form at the recent Barclays tournament to finish at a respectable 12th placing. He notched birdies on the second, fourth, sixth and seventh holes on Saturday, after a dreadful first day at the Deutsche Bank Championship 2010.

“To start off that way, that was nice,” he said. That, however, wasn’t the tone on the first day: Woods, who ranked 65th in the FedEx Cup standings, started to shoot a one-over 72, only ahead of five players in the 99-man golf tournament. “I just didn’t have it today,” he told the Press after the first round. But it’s not  just “today” – Wood’s game has been in the doldrums for quite a while: many people naturally felt that his domestic problems that led to his recent divorce from Swedish wife, Elin, were sapping his mental strength and thence his focus on the game.

Leading the golfers on 64 at the Deutsche Bank tournament were Australia’s Jason Day and American Zach Johnson. Day expressed that “everything kind of clicked” at this event, while the obviously delighted Johnson felt the good start will create the momentum for the rest of the golf tournament.

Barclays Golf 2010 Prize Money | Tiger Woods In Ridgewood Country Club

This year’s Barclays Golf is expected to be stiff. Held from August 26 to 29 in Ridgewood Country Club, Barclays will see Tiger Woods competing for a share of the prize money of $7.5 million. He is expected to qualify for the Playoffs even though his final standing is still dependent on this week’s results at Wyndham Championship. It will be Woods first time playing in Barclays at this venue.

First established in 1967, and initially known as Westchester Classic, the Barclays may also see Vijay Singh competing. The only four- time winner, Vijay Singh won the tournament in 1993, 1995, 2006 and 2008. Vijay is also the only golfer that won more than twice at this prestigious event.

The two-time winners are Jack Nicklaus (1967, 1972), Seve Ballesteros (1983, 1988), Ernie Els (1996, 1997), and Sergio Garcia (2001, 2004).
